Des Mots du Monde started off as a way for me to tell my family about my year working as an au pair for a wealthy family in Paris. It became more than I expected: part survival guide about homesickness and culture shock, part sounding board for this writer disguised as a babysitter.
I have since left Paris and after a quick stint working for a startup in Barcelona, returned home. I recently started writing it again as I attempt to record thoughts about moving to New York City, the latest episode in my hopelessly romantic and restless life.
With stories about postgrad life, the au pair experience and living in Paris in the wake of the Nov. 13 Paris attacks, the blog has attracted readers from 35 different countries. I hope you can find something you like here too.
About me: I’m Hailey, a journalist and theatre artist from St. Paul, Minnesota. You can visit my website or send me an email if you want to get in touch. You can find my other, (slightly) less rant-y writing on Minnesota Public Radio, Classical MPR, and Minnesota Playlist.
